Taking Profit at Resistance: James G's Oil Trade and Bitcoin Ladder
Key takeaways
- Oil reached a major resistance near $103, so James closed his 1,000-barrel long instead of betting on the bigger weekly pattern.
- He immediately reset buy orders at the old supports, at $75, $67 and $56, so the plan continues without chasing.
- On Bitcoin he keeps laddered buys at 79,100, 77,000 and 75,000 and is watching the trend line near 78,000.
James G's 26 October 2026 video was about one decision: when to take a big profit. His 1,000-barrel oil long was up about $27,800 as markets reopened on Iran headlines.
Why he sold at $103
Oil had dipped to about $101 on news that the US would not attack Iran that day, then bounced back toward $103. On his chart, $103 is a massive resistance line, so he closed the trade.
He also pointed out the case for holding. The weekly chart shows a large inverse head and shoulders with a measured target near $144, and a bull flag on the daily had already broken up. He still sold. He did not want a trade that only pays if a war escalates, and he said he hopes the pattern fails.
Reset the orders, don't chase
Taking profit didn't end the plan. He set new buy orders at the supports that worked last time:
- $75, where his previous entry filled
- $67, which the last dip missed by 40 cents, at $67.40
- $56, the deep support
Bitcoin: ladder through the supports
Bitcoin was fighting to hold $80,000. His read across time frames:
- The weekly candle was shaping up as a bearish engulfing candle with one week left. Both of his indicator bots showed a weekly buy, but the stochastic was overbought and turning down.
- A 4-hour head and shoulders he had warned about played out, and the descending trend line sat near 78,000.
- There was heavy support around 76,000 and 75,000.
His orders were laddered at 79,100, 77,000 and 75,000, with deeper ones below, and he opened half a Bitcoin near 79,700 into the Sunday close.
He also walked through the 4-year cycle. Past bear markets ran roughly 385 days from top to bottom, and by that count the bottom could be around now. He was careful to add that it is "not guaranteed to follow the 4-year cycles".
Big tech at support
He kept his three largest positions:
- Nvidia sat on a support near $211, about 13% below its high.
- Google was about 21% off its May high and oversold on the weekly and daily charts, with earnings that week.
- Amazon had its major support near $230, also with earnings that week.
The Nasdaq's rising wedge was his main warning. In Clash of AIs that morning, Claude Opus 5.5 and GPT-5.6 Sol Ultra were long oil and short Bitcoin.
He took $27,800 off the table at resistance
