Take Profit or Hold? James G's Multi-Timeframe Answer
Key takeaways
- Short-term timeframes, the four-hour and one-hour, time exits. The daily decides whether the trade deserves to stay open.
- The four-hour stochastic kept marking time to buy and time to sell with surprising regularity.
- Volume profile showed where orders sat: about $66,000, $75,000 and $100,000, with resistance near $83,000.
Every trader eventually has a trade in profit and has to decide: bank it or let it run? On 13 October 2026 James G answered that live on camera.
The setup
He had already taken a quick profit of about $350 on a short-term trade opened near $81,000 that morning. He admitted that holding to $84,000 would have made more. A second Bitcoin position was also in profit, and Bitcoin was around $83,500.
What each timeframe said
- Four-hour and one-hour: overbought. By his short-term rules, that is the time to take profit.
- Daily: coming out of oversold and turning up, with a V-shaped recovery and a double bottom. That says there is room to run.
He scrolled back through the four-hour chart to show how the stochastic had worked: "This was a time to buy. This was a time to sell." Over and over, the turns lined up with the swings.
His decision
He kept the position open because the daily was turning up. He also named the risk. About $83,000 was strong resistance and an area of liquidity, so price could spike up, take those orders and come back down. If you were not already in a trade, he said the better entry was back at support, not at resistance.
He used the volume profile, or VRVP, to show where most trading had happened: about $66,000, $75,000 and $100,000. Those levels tend to act as magnets and walls.
Use it yourself
- Decide before entry which timeframe owns the trade.
- Use the lower timeframe to take partial profits into overbought readings.
- Let the higher timeframe decide whether the rest stays open.
- Keep your cash. James ended the day 70% cash and 30% equities.
Time to buy. Time to sell.
